Using an experimental approach to describing and understanding
psychopathology, the course focuses on the aetiology and treatment of
bipolar and related disorders, depressive disorders and
substance-related disorders. Since the clinical psychologist must be
familiar with the modern clinical psychology landscape, Part I of this
course provides a synopsis of key elements of experimental
psychopathology research, its methods and its strategies. Part II
addresses the developments that have occurred in both science and
clinical practice in depressive
and bipolar mood disorders, providing an up-to-date summary of these
advancements. Part III addresses substance abuse with a
broad and deep grounding in experimental methods. Finally, the complex
relationship between substance use disorders and mood disorders (e.g.,
dual disorders) will be explored.
