The course aims to look at how taking a gender
perspective can affect our views of welfare systems. It considers the role of caring in western
welfare systems and the work women do in this respect. We look at how work and care is combined in
different ways across Europe, depending upon family and welfare systems and how
these are changing. We consider how women’s work and the role of welfare
affects the quality of society more generally.
