"Informal Spoken English”
For: BA_S1 Students
Introduction:
The second year Advanced English Programme courses (Autumn: "Informal Spoken English”; Spring: "Integrated Skills”) provide practical work in speaking, reading, writing and oral comprehension intended to help you develop further towards a secure use of English in contemporary society and the professional world. 'Informal Spoken English' presents a variety of activities focusing on listening, speaking, vocabulary development and analysis of speech. In addition to class work, there are pre-assignments for upcoming classes as well as follow-up activities of class sessions.
The Guided Autonomous Study Year 2 - Part 1 (GAS) project is integrated into the course.
Specific Course Objectives:
· Identify and practice linguistic features of natural spoken English
· Improve English listening comprehension ability and listenership (film viewing, presentations)
· Reflect on and refine personal learning strategies with regard to natural spoken English
· Understand and use idiomatic English and phrasal verbs
· Understand and use conversational strategies (ex. social situations); interrupting, agreeing/disagreeing, questioning, expressing doubt humour: ex. sarcasm, irony (film viewing, class activities)
