Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is considered an evidence-based best practice treatment by the American Psychological Association (APA), having passed scientific tests of usefulness, quality and effectiveness. This involves understanding:

How the behavior works;

How the behavior is affected by the environment;

How learning takes place

By performing a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA), we can understand what in the environment is favoring the behavior to happen, and change the environment to 1) increase behaviors that are helpful and adaptive and 2) decrease behaviors that are harmful and/or affect learning.

ABA involves several techniques for understanding and promoting behavioral changes, and it is unique, since it can be adapted to each person’s need, teaching them skills that are useful in everyday life. ABA has been used for people with typical and atypical development, including but not limited to those on the Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder among others.
