Objective: In
this course the students get an overview on theories and concepts of
performance management with regard to nonprofit organisations. The main
focus is on the
following questions: (1) How can we
measure nonprofit organisation (npo)
performance? (2) What makes a npo
a high-performing organisation? (3) How do nonprofits control their performance?
Course plan: The course
is a mix of
lecture and
case study groupwork. It is
based on selected articles from textbooks and international journals with a mid-term exam. Students join
groups of
3-5 participants and
choose a nonprofit organisation example from a wide
range of subsectors (e.g., charities, sports associations, museums, universities, …) of
the Third Sector
and analyse its
performance management system. The results have to be presented in a mid-term presentation and in the final presentation in the last semester week.
