Globalization has the form of increasing international trade,
international financial capital flows, multi-nationally operating firms,
and international labor migration. Critics argue that some of these
patterns affect the sustainability of economic and human development in
an undesired fashion. Do import competition and international
outsourcing adversely affect labor market outcomes and health status in
advanced economies? Are higher market shares of multinational firms
associated with declining shares of the economy’s income for workers? Is
the populist narrative correct that immigration leads to more crime,
lower productivity of firms and lower income of natives? Which policies
improve like employment and job stability of immigrants? How much wealth
lies in tax havens and how does tax evasion bias wealth inequality and
national tax revenues? How is climate change related to world-wide
economic activity and what should be done?
