Physical phenomena and principles underpin many aspects of our everyday life and guide decisions determining our future. The course subdivided into different sections that impact us in different ways, including the generation and use of energy, means of transport (from the scooter to ocean-going ships and airplanes), and the house and systems within. These first sections will also focus on the question how developments in these sectors can address the pressing climate change. In addition to energy related topics, the course covers various lifestyle aspects, such as the physical principles underpinning various sports (skiing, football, sailing...), the basic principles of Swiss weather phenomena, (mobile-) communication, navigation (including the GPS), plus miscellaneous topics such as security printing, the physics of knots, optical phenomena in nature, etc. The students will have the opportunity to partially determine the contents of the course.

The course will be taught in German or in English.
