This course aims to 1) present the symptoms of some neurodevelopmental disorders that lead to academic difficulties, namely the specific learning disabilities, language disorder, autism spectrum disorder and ADHD; 2) understand how these disorders affect academic learning; 3) know the evidence-based strategies for managing these difficulties in the school setting. Students will be required to critically read psychiatric manuals (DSM-5, ICD-11) and the scientific literature on interventions. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to identify the main psychiatric disorders causing school difficulties and to appraise evidence-based interventions targeting those difficulties.
