This course aims to 1) present the symptoms of
some neurodevelopmental disorders that lead to academic difficulties, namely
the specific learning disabilities, language disorder, autism spectrum disorder
and ADHD; 2) understand how these disorders affect academic learning; 3) know
the evidence-based strategies for managing these difficulties in the school
setting. Students will be required to critically read psychiatric manuals
(DSM-5, ICD-11) and the scientific literature on interventions. At the end of
the course, students are expected to be able to identify the main psychiatric
disorders causing school difficulties and to appraise evidence-based
interventions targeting those difficulties.
