This course focuses on the anti-discrimination law of the European Union. Students will also learn about the interrelationship with anti-discrimination law under the European Convention on Human Rights, international human rights law as well as Swiss domestic anti-discrimination law.

In the first part of the course, we will treat the basic concepts of discrimination law (direct and indirect discrimination, justification of unequal treatment, enforcement of anti-discrimination law in practice).

In the second part, we will take a closer look at the different grounds of discrimination (gender, race and ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, and nationality).

The course consists of lectures, including several guest lectures by experts from the field, as well as in-class discussions of case-law and solving of practical exercises.
