This course handles the numerous uses of metals and metal ions in our daily life materials as well as in biology. For the metals in materials, we focus on the solid state, on metal production and fabrication of materials as well as their structures and properties. This part of the lecture will be also accompanied by excursions to industry. For the metals in life, this part will focus on bioinorganic aspects, how metal ions play roles in electron and charge transport, in how they make life possible.
The lecture takes place in room 418.
Please note that this course is held in form of block lectures at irregular intervals, together with the course on Crystallography. Three excursions to industry are included as well. The bioinorganic lectures and the excursions will take part as announced in the planning (see document "Planning").
