There has never been as much art as today, and never before were
aesthetic practices as ubiquitous as in contemporary societies. On the
other hand, there has probably never been as much theoretical
uncertainty with regard to the very concept of the aesthetic itself, and
its relation to other domains such as science, morality, law, politics
and economics. The seminar will map the current field lines in this
contested space, spanning from the philosophy of contemporary art,
theories of embodiment, virtuality, imagination and media aesthetics all
through the relationship of aesthetics and politics. The seminar
addresses advanced students and includes the possibility of presenting
current research projects (master and PhD theses). The seminar will be
trilingual, giving each participant the option as to which language they
prefer expressing themselves actively.
