Experimental genetics (SBL.00114 )

This lecture teaches the theoretical background to the main techniques of modern genetics. Some applications are also discussed. After an introduction on general concepts and definitions, students will learn how to localize genes and how to generate and analyze mutants. This lecture will also present the design of forward genetic screens, the reverse genetics approach, the design of CRISPR-mediated gene editing, the use of sequence databases. This course is aimed at students who are interested in pursuing their education on model organisms such as yeast, mouse, Drosophila, C. elegans and Arabidopsis.
