This seminar is designed for MSc students in Human Geography. In particular, students without BSc training in qualitative methods are encouraged to participate in the seminar to learn about different methods in social research and how to apply them in the field.

In this seminar students will work on small research projects throughout the semester. Each seminar will offer time to reflect on field work and to learn about and discuss different aspects of qualitative research (interviews, observation, visual methods, ethnography, field access, ethics, positionality).

The seminar also includes a limited amount of mandatory readings, in which students will become familiar with theoretical, epistemological and practical aspects of social research in the field. Each student is required to submit a brief reflection essay at the end of the semester.

3 ETCS (passed/failed), presence in the seminar is mandatory. Evaluation is based on an oral presentation, a research plan, and a reflection essay.
