Transnational Childhoods
Children are on the
move. Around the world, many children and young people are migrating with their
families to find better life opportunities, escaping from war, poverty, or
environmental catastrophes. Some children may travel alone, as unaccompanied
minors. Others may stay behind, receiving transnational support from parents
who are abroad. In this seminar, we will address how migration affects the life
of children from different angles – as first-, second-, and third-generation
migrants, as refugees, as unaccompanied minors, and as ‘left behind’ – creating
experiences of transnational childhoods.
