This course is designed for master students who wish to understand the theory and practice of organisational behaviour (OB). It focuses on OB at three levels, individual, team/group, and organisational, and explores 4 interrelated elements: 1. Individual characteristics of people, 2. (Perceived) Behaviours of people in organisations, 3. Financial and non-financial outcomes, and 4. Different contexts. We will start at the individual level, covering theoretical and practical aspects of leadership, motivation, and individual differences that are relevant in different organisational contexts. We will then turn to the team/group level, covering group dynamics, communication, problem solving and performance. Finally, we will move up to the organisational level, looking at strategy, tensions (e.g., balancing profit, growth, and control, balancing short-term goals with long-term sustainability, balancing the expectations of different constituents within and outside the organisation) that leaders must resolve to ensure success and drive organisational change. Throughout the course period, students will work in small groups to create their own organisation, create different tools, enabling them to launch their organisation or apply the tools that help them to drive organisational change.
