Crystallography, Crystal growth and Technology: This course handles the crystalline state of matter,
the underlying rules and focusses on the basics and application of X-ray based analytical
techniques. Diffraction methods,
for nanoparticles, single crystals, powders and thin films, are widely used to
investigate the crystallography and microstructural properties of materials.
The knowledge of structure presents the basis for the understanding of
macroscopic physical behavior and the functioning of materials and materials
systems. This course introduces the basic theoretical aspects of diffraction
and diffraction methods, and their use for solving complex analytical problems in life and materials
science, for modern applications in research and industry.
Please note that this course is held in form of block lectures at irregular intervals, together with the course on 'Metals in Materials and Life' (CH04707), where three excursions to industry are included as well. Please see the document 'Planning'.
