This seminar focuses on human-environment relationships from a historical perspective. It explores background, theory, methodology and case studies in Environmental History, a dynamic field of scholarship with contributions from History, Environmental Sciences, Geography and other disciplines. In this seminar, special attention is given to exploring Environmental History topics through various lenses. The introductory part serves to establish the scope and background of Environmental History in general. It focuses on methodologies, environmental thought, and concepts. The rest of the seminar centres on different aspects of environmental history by looking at various topics such as health, colonialism, disasters, expert knowledge, environmental advocacy and climate change. The seminar aims to offer an introductory overview of the multiple objects, perspectives and contributions of environmental history. It is an active pedagogy seminar, which will mainly be based on exchanges around two texts to be read per 2-hour session. The aim of the seminar is to offer a broad cartography of texts, questions, debates and key disciplinary and methodological approaches in the field covered by the course.
