The aim of this semester Master's course is to provide students with a good understanding and general knowledge of personal data protection, a fast developing field. The emphasis of the course will be on specific aspects of data protection law, such as the main principles applicable to the processing of personal data, the appropriate measures for guaranteeing individuals' rights and the framework for data transfers. The relationship between the GDPR and the new Federal Data Protection Act, and the implementation of data protection in the EEA and Switzerland - with its strengths and weaknesses - are other central topics of the course
