This course’s focus is on international (United Nations) and European (Council of Europe and European Union) human rights law (IEHRL). Following an introductory session on human rights law’s history and theory, the course is articulated around two main parts. The first part pertains to IEHRL’s normative structure (i.e., sources, content, scope, right-holders, duty-bearers and restrictions/derogations). The second part of the course focuses on IEHRL's monitoring and implementation institutions and procedures, be they universal or European. The course is taught like a seminar and, to that extent, is based on advance reading and active preparation in class.
