This seminar is designed for third year BSc students in Geography. In this seminar, students will engage with classical and contemporary debates about the complex interrelationship between humans and the environment. Based on the analysis of human-environment relations as inherently value- and power-laden, students will learn to discuss and critique various key concepts such as nature, property, commons or the Anthropocene. In parallel, students will engage with contemporary contestations around climate change, sustainability and biodiversity conservation, and will do so from a range of different societal perspectives and theoretical standpoints.
