In this lecture, a broad overview of theories and models of media use, media exposure and media effects will be presented. This applies to substantive and methodological differentiation and expansion. We will also address special and current phenomena in media exposure and media effects. We will approach studies and theories from a variety of different critical, theoretical, and methodological perspectives. The lecture will be framed in two templates: influence on individuals and influence on larger social structures and institutions. By positioning the different types of effects in the forefront, we adress the full range of media effects, how they manifest themselves, and the factors that that are likely to bring these effects into being. |
