This seminar explores how parental mental health influences family dynamics and child well-being. We’ll look at the interplay between parents’ mental health challenges, their parenting behaviors, and children’s mental health and behavior. Students will also gain insight into evidence-based programs and interventions designed to support both parents and children.

The course blends lectures, weekly journal article readings, and in-class discussions with interactive group activities. We’ll also spend time learning practical mental health skills shown to support effective parenting. Between classes, students will read the assigned articles and share comments and questions on the course Moodle forum, which will guide our weekly discussions. In addition, part of the course will involve social media projects aimed at sharing evidence-based information about parental mental health with a broader audience.
