The aim of this course, which includes exercises, is to equip students with the basic skills needed to approach their master's or doctoral work with greater effectiveness and confidence. It achieves this by familiarising students with the management of rich information using digital tools. The course also introduces students to harvesting the growing wealth of available open data and reusing it in their own research, notably through the use of semantic web technologies.
In addition to the introductory part of the course, each student will work on a personal project that aligns with their interests. The aim is to learn how to design, store, enrich and prepare data for analysis in order to answer research questions.
Due to the practical nature of the course, participants will need to bring their own laptop (tablets or similar devices are not suitable). No other requirements apply. The language of instruction will be English, however, participants will be able to ask questions and contribute to discussions in English, German or French.
