This course introduces Bachelor’s students to the field of education policy research by examining how educational policies are developed, implemented, and evaluated, with particular attention to policy debates in Switzerland (although students may investigate policy problems outside of Switzerland as well). Students explore the roles of governments, cantons, schools, educators, families, and civil society organizations in shaping educational decision-making. Through contemporary policy issues—including digitalization and artificial intelligence, educational equity and inclusion, teacher shortages, and sustainability—they examine how political, economic, social, and cultural factors influence policy. Students learn to analyze policy documents, identify stakeholders, and assess policy implementation and outcomes. They develop the skills to formulate policy-informed research questions, summarize policy perspectives, and refine arguments in a policy brief.
