The main goal of this course is to familiarize students with the field of human factors, which revolves around understanding the interactions of humans with (often technical) systems. Topics addressed in this course include the historical development of the human factors field, human information processing and attention, and human decision making in the interaction with technical systems. A focus will be on applied topics, such as human-machine interfaces and human factors aspects of automation and assistant systems in the domains of aviation and future mobility. Upon completion, students will be able to identify potential human factors issues in systems, and have an understanding of commonly used methods of human factors research.
