This master's seminar provides an in-depth introduction to major traditions and debates in social theory, examining how knowledge, society, power, and space are conceptualized and studied. Beginning with foundational questions about the nature of science and the social construction of reality, the course explores influential perspectives (e.g. Marx’s theory of capitalism, Foucault's discourse theory, and Bourdieu's constructivist structuralism) and engages with divers other critical approaches (gender studies, posthuman thought, and new materialism). Structured around key readings, this seminar offer a broad overview of key theoretical frameworks that continue to shape the social sciences and social analysis today.
