This is an advanced course in public international law with the aim of making students aware of the complex challenges of modern international law. A moot court provides students with an opportunity to gain some hands-on experience in international law.

The course will mainly consist of discussions in class, for which students must prepare in advance by doing readings. The compulsory readings are made available as pdfs on Moodle. Some advice may be given regarding additional, non-compulsory reading. The exam will be built on the discussions in class.

The goal of the course is to familiarize students with selected topics of international law in more depth. They ought to be able to engage with complex questions posed by today’s international law. Crucially, the goal is that students learn to form their own opinion and to defend it based on sound arguments. A basic knowledge of international law is indispensable to follow the course (some students may have to prepare/repeat in advance for this purpose).

The assessment takes the form of a 120 minutes written exam. More details about the exam will be given during the course.

Students must do the compulsory readings before coming to class to be able to participate in discussions.
