The goal of this thematic seminar is to provide students with the opportunity to present a mathematical topic in a seminar format. The seminar will focus on isoperimetric inequalities in different settings.
Among all closed curves of a given length, the circle encloses the most area. This reading seminar looks at a dozen different proofs of that statement and asks what each one sees that the others miss, then follows the same question into higher dimensions, into graphs and networks, and into spectral geometry. Participants give one or two talks each, based on assigned reading. Autumn 2026, Mondays 15:15–17:00.
